Universal design

Universal design is about developing products and services that can be used by everyone, regardless of ability. The goal is to create a society where everyone has equal opportunities for participation, and where no one is excluded due to physical or digital barriers. This principle is rooted in both Norwegian legislation and international standards, and applies to a wide range of products and services, including digital self-service solutions such as ticket machines and information screens.

How does Lexit meet the requirements for universal design?

At Lexit, we take universal design seriously. We ensure that all solutions covered by the regulations – including kiosks, ticket machines, and digital interfaces – are developed in accordance with current European standards and the European Accessibility Act.

This includes clear and effective visual communication, user-friendly interfaces, and adaptations for people with visual or hearing impairments.

Accessibility in practice

  • The user interface is adapted for people with various disabilities – vision, hearing, motor skills, and cognition.

  • Control elements are positioned so they are accessible to everyone, including children, tall individuals, and wheelchair users.

  • The screens are at least 27 inches and readable under varying lighting conditions.

  • Audio output is available via both speakers and headphones, with step-by-step adjustable volume control.

Robustness and environmental adaptation

  • Our solutions are built to withstand Norwegian climate conditions, including large temperature variations and vibrations on, for example, train platforms.

  • The hardware is vandal-proof and weather-resistant, and complies with EU standards for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI).

The importance of universal design

In Norway, we have a strong focus on inclusion and equality, and universal design is a natural part of this approach. For companies like Lexit, this means not only complying with legal requirements, but also demonstrating social responsibility and strengthening our reputation. When everyone has equal access to products and services, opportunities for participation, well-being, and value creation increase – whether for customers, employees, or partners.
